The Big Move!

I haven't posted in a while because I have been busy with my big move to graduate school. Over the past week I've been settling into my dorm, and doing all sorts of paper work and other fun things to settle down.

The Move

The move I think was the most stressful part of grad school so far. I know far more stressful things are to come, but the move really stressed me out. The 10 hour flight over to England wasn't that bad. We hit some turbulence due to all of the storms and hurricanes in the US, but other than that the flight went pretty smooth. Once we cleared customs and gathered out bads, the real fun began. We had to hire a car because we were travelling with so many bags, that the trains and busses were not an option. Our taxi driver was over an hours late. he forgot where he parked his car, and then his card kept getting declined when trying to leave the parking area. He made a stop about an hour into our drive for about 20 mins to grab some coffee. Once we finally got to our hotel for the night, we realized that our cute little old english inn did not have an elevator and we had multiple bags that were over 50lbs. It was a workout to get to out room, but we made it eventually.

Move in the next day went really well. I unpacked all of my things for a couple of hours, and then we went grocery shopping. We got the chance to grab a bus and explore town a little bit. The Colchester Castle is really pretty, and the grounds it sit are also pretty. The Roman wall runs all over town, and is a cool monument to visit if you love Roman history. Town is filled with a ton of historical buildings and landmarks, and it seems like every direction you turn there is something to see.

Settling In

Settling in has been pretty easy. So far the only culture shock type thing I have experienced is just them driving on the wrong side of the road. I haven't been run over yet, but with the way people drive here its bound to happen sometime. I have 6 roommates, and thankfully all of them are super cool. Most of the are guys, which takes a little getting used to, but everyone is super welcoming and happy to talk. I have explored campus a little bit, but still have my orientation for my course tomorrow. I am really excited to start classes next week.
The other day I got to explore town with one of my roomates. WE walked all over town, and then we stopped to grab a gyro for lunch. It was from a little cart called The Pitta, and it was so good. I know I will be spending way to much money over the next year there.

Here is the gyro I got. I got the Pork gyro and it was delicious

Overall it has been super fun so far, and I cannot wait for what is to come!
