Book Review: A Witch and her Dragon by Emberly Wyndham
A Witch and Her Dragon by Emberly WyndhamMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
I'm back with another book review. I haven't been goos about writing reviews for the books Iv'e been reading recently, but I had some time and felt that this book deserved a review. This book was also recently published (June 2025), so i felt lucky enough to stumble upon it in my Kindle recommendations soon after is publication. I devoured this book in one afternoon, and hope you enjoy the review and reading it as much as I did! Rating: 3.5/5
Spice: 2/5
This book came up in my kindle recommendations, and I thought I would give it a go. This books was super cute, and a nice mix of plot and spice. If you are looking for a grumpy x sunshine, slowburn, princess x bodyguard, paranormal (witch and dragon shifter) romance that doesn't have a 500 year age gap then this book is for you.
I really enjoyed the academy, magic, and magic building in this book. It took existing magic ideas like divination and elemental magic, and gave it a new almost modern twist. This love story doesn't have a third act breakup, because they weren't technically together, but they do have a disagreement/lack of communication that results in something similar. If you don't like miscommunication or lack of communication. then this might not be for you.
The spice in this book takes a while. It is a slow burn, and the story takes place over one academic year give or take a few months. The burn starts like three years before that, but the princess doesn't know, and we as readers don't get to read about what happens during those three years. The spice in this book comes later on, and it is pretty mild when it comes to shifter spice.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It didn't get a full 5 stars because personally I am not the biggest fan of lack of communication. The ending/climax of this book was also pretty predictable, and felt a little rushed. The book was close to 400 pages, and it felt like all the action and important things came all at the end of the book, and it was almost a little overwhelming.
