Tropes: enemies to lovers, slow burn, forgotten lover

Hey Guys! I just finished When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker. This was the book I read on the plane while I was travelling. Hope you enjoy the review. This book was really interesting to read. I haven't read any books like this one before. The world, magic system, and dragons were all very unique. That being said it was pretty confusing to read at some points. The world building and then all of the unique names were really hard to keep track of in my mind. I was confused reading some of the book because of the switch between the journal from the past and the present day. I think it would have been easier to reads and understand if the journal was the one part of the book and the present day was another.

That being said, I did enjoy reading this book. The complex characters and plot captured my attention the whole time. I didn't read the description before picking up this book, and was a little surprised by how dark it was. There was lots of fighting and killing, and mentions of lots of other dark things. If you are sensitive to anything like that this book is not for you.

The romance in this book is a slow burn enemies to lovers situation. You meet the male main character within the first chapters, but the romance doesn't start until the middle to end of the book. I have read a couple of book that have this same type of romance where the female main character is a reincarnated lover, but this one was different due to the magic and circumstances surrounding the romance. I do like the characters together and hope they end up together in the second book.

This book does end on a cliffhanger, and it sets up the second book pretty well. The cliffhanger left me a little bit confused as new characters were introduced in the epilogue of the book. I don't like when authors do this, and this cliffhanger felt like it could have been either included in the main story or put at the start of the second book. I feel like it didn't really fit well in the epilogue, and that the epilogue could have been used for something better.
